In October 2016, two teams from Vistra, VGML and Vistra Jersey competed in the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon, helping to raise money for important charitable causes and highlighting their vital work.

The marathon is an established annual race welcoming many types of runner, including corporate teams who compete to raise money for local and international charities. This year, Vistra’s two teams ran in relay to complete the marathon. The ten employees collected over £800 for charities such as ‘Seeing is Believing’, an initiative to tackle avoidable blindness around the world.

In 2016, Seeing is Believing will use funds raised by the marathon for a new project in Zambia. The project is designed to provide eye care services in underdeveloped areas, and will run for three years. It aims to reach over 100,000 people in need, and will provide them with cataract surgery, treatment, eye examinations, spectacles and eye health education. The program will also contribute to the longer-term health resources in Zambia, by training eye health workers.

To prepare for the race, the two Vistra teams trained together during lunchtime and in the evenings. All members of the teams appreciated the opportunity to get to know colleagues outside the office, to improve their fitness and to raise money for important causes at the same time.

Vistra is proud to have made a contribution towards the health of those who are much less fortunate, and to prove that even the challenge of a marathon can be met through teamwork. We are already preparing for the marathon in 2017 and look forward to continuing to support this rewarding initiative.
